The old adage says it takes a village to raise a child. Well, if that's true, then it takes a whole country to raise our next generation. Where has that sense of community gone? As I'm sure you know, right now the federal government is seriously considering dismantling the Department of Education. It goes without saying that this would have serious consequences for all our children, especially children with disabilities and children throughout the country living in poverty.

In these times, we all have to come together to defend what is right. Together, we can show our leaders that we care about our children. We can remind them it takes a country to raise a generation.

On this past Thursday, many of us in Binghamton did just that. Over a hundred people from groups like Indivisible Binghamton, Citizens Action, and our Union Family came together to remind our leaders that our children are too valuable to take away their futures. Our state legislators Senator Lea Webb and Assemblymember Donna Lupardo came together with us. They all know the Department of Education is too important to chop up into pieces. We the people know that our next generation is our greatest resource, and we have to protect them.

Like cutting Medicaid and firing VA workers, this is not a political issue. This is a human issue. Thank you to all of those who joined at our rally last week. As you'll see in this letter, we have many more rallies and days of action coming soon. Will we see you there? It takes a country.
